If the threat of impending natural disaster, war, climate change, terrorist plots aren’t enough to inspire you to start prepping, maybe this will. According to Mars, Inc. and the world’s largest chocolate maker, Barry Callebaut, in just over four short years, we will be looking at a global chocolate shortage of epic proportions.
Because of disease, drought, rapacious new markets and the displacement of cacao by more-productive crops such as corn and rubber, demand is expected to outstrip supply by an additional 1 million tons every decade for the foreseeable future. Here, now, as you read these words, the world is running out of chocolate.

Looks like it might be time to start stocking up for the future, but not too much. Chocolate bars, according to The Hershey Company website, is best consumed within one year–less if it contains nuts. For longest shelf-life, choose cocoa powder which can last a very long time as long as its kept at room temperature in a tightly sealed tin.
